Sawai Madhopur is on the main Delhi-Mumbai rail route. It is also directly connected by rail to Kolkata and Chennai. By road, Ranthambhore is 180 km from Jaipur (the nearest airport) 275 km from Agra, 225 km from Bharatpur and 450 km from Delhi.

Wildlife Sanctuary

Ranthambhore National park is spread over an area of 392 sq. km. punctuated with waterfalls, lakes and numerous streams. The characteristic ruggedness of the topogrophy of this region comprises a delightful mix of cliffs, narrow valleys and plateaus. Way back in 1955, Ranthambhore was declared a wildlife sanctuary by the Government of India.

The Tiger's Haven - A success story ofthe 'Project Tiger', has become one of the most popular destinations on the wildlife circuit of the country. Nestled amidst the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges, with good forest cover, nullahs and waterfalls.

The three water reservoirs - Padam Talab, Rajbagh and Milak Talab are centres of activity, with migratory and local birds fluttering around, the sambars which readily take to water for feeding.

The scenic beauty of the sanctuary is further enhanced by the beautiful valleys, like Kachinda, Kamal, Soleshwar, Lahpur and Bhakola.

Besides the tiger, one encounters other members of the animal kingdom as well, like chital, sambar, chinkara, leopard, hyena, jackal, fox, caracal, sloth bear, jungle cat and rate!. More than three hundred varieties of birds can be seen. During the winter months the park also plays host to migratory birds like greyleg goose, ruddy shelduck, pintails, etc. It is an ideal place to see the Indian tiger in its natural habitat.

The Maharajas of Jaipur and important guests such as Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and the Mountbattens have also gone on royal hunts. Rajiv Gandhi and Bill Clinton were thrilled by the sight of the tiger in its natural habitat in the park.
